Getting Serious About Your Car Insurance- Best Options for Motorists

It’s amazing how little people usually know about their car insurance. They know they need it, and manage their policies on auto pilot. They tend to stick to the same old insurers and just tolerate whatever prices they’re charged, but don’t realize that car insurance these days is a whole new ball game. They’ll pay much more than they should for policies that are basically obsolete and overpriced. You can get good comprehensive car insurance which can be tailor-made to your budget and your lifestyle needs, if you know where to look.

Car insurance has been undergoing a pretty noisy revolution in recent years. Motorists have been getting tired of premiums that charge them like they’re racing car drivers. If you’re driving a suburban family car, doing the shopping and picking the kids up from school, why should you be charged a fortune for that?

The old style policies, aka “fine print fossils”, really do come from a different world, and most importantly for motorists, a different driving environment. This is no longer 1950. People use their cars differently. The cars themselves are very different. What use is a car insurance policy that was originally written 60 years ago? Some of these absurd old things have more legal language than actual statutes.

As a matter of fact, “fine print” really is pretty ridiculous in car insurance policies. The top car insurance firms have got that message loud and clear, and they’ve finally turned those policies into easy to understand, straightforward documents. The new car insurance policies aren’t written for lawyers. They’re written to be understood by consumers.

The new car insurance deal for motorists- Self managed online policies

The new insurance approach really is different. Instead of inflicting customers with a sort of “torture by paperwork” process, the new insurers are doing everything online, including their quotes. Even better, you can literally customize your policy so you don’t get inflicted with ridiculous costs.
These are just some of the new ideas in car insurance:

  • You can get cover that suits your needs, and manage your policy online.
  • You can manage your premiums to save money upfront.
  • You can make claims online.
  • You get full backup from a help desk phone and online support system, wherever you are. (This is also a very useful problem-solving mechanism, when you’re stuck and need things to start happening quickly.)
  • Instead of pages of legal jargon, you get a Product Disclosure Statement, which is now mandatory, and has finally eliminated the old “fine print” that never worked for consumers.

Brand name and OEM car parts- Making sure you get the right service

All car owners can find themselves lumbered with “interesting” parts. That’s not car service best practice, or anything like it. These parts, unless they’re at the accredited industry standard, can be liabilities. The fact is that car designers don’t design their cars to be fitted with just anything that happens to be lying around. You need standard parts because they’re reliable. You may also need OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts.

Most professional car service people simply won’t touch substandard parts. They’re a liability, and they can cause more warranty work than anyone in their right mind would want to think about. Best practice brand name repairs start with OEM parts, and many repairers in particular make a point of trying to get them, even if it takes some time and trouble to do so. The alternative is to use the standardized, highly reliable brand name parts.

The “brand” issue

The fact is that the only way to be absolutely sure of a good job is not to guess about the viability of the parts. Some car models have very similar parts that can be trusted to be interchanged. However, that’s not the case with different generations of car. Technology has changed so much that the “no guesswork” approach is much more trustworthy.

If you’ve ever driven a blueprint model car, you’ll know the difference. These cars run so smoothly that they’re really something special. Every part is tailor made for that model, and these cars have excellent performance. That’s how important parts are.
