Finding the best sites to buy used cars

If you are thinking of buying a second hand car, then you really ought to be trying to buy it on the internet. This is obvious to anyone who has done so before, because you can save so much money when you buy online, but it still pays to know where to buy it from. There are good places and bad places to buy online when it comes to the purchase of cars.

A lot of people like the idea of buying a second hand car from one of the auction sites on the internet, but in reality this is not such a good idea. The problem primarily is that people think they can do no wrong because they only have to bid what they want. This tends to breed over confidence, and it is remarkable how often this leads people to getting caught up in a bidding war, which means that they end up spending too much money on the car that they are interested in.

You are much better off using a site like motors.co.uk. Motors is a great site which allows you to search for exactly what you are looking for. You can adjust the search parameters so that you end up with a very precise selection of vehicles which match what you are looking for. You will also find good honest prices which is of course what you are looking for when it comes to buying second hand cars.

Or the buyer can purchase a second hand car from an online ad from a private party. Either way, he needs to examine the car to see the shape that it’s in.

Just because he’s saving lots of money by purchasing a second hand car doesn’t mean that he should just jump at the first one he sees that catches his eye without doing his homework on it. One of the best ways to save money on a second hand car is to make sure it’s not going to have any major mechanical problems down the road. The way to do this is for the new owner to have the second hand car checked out by a certified automobile mechanic. All of the major systems need to be thoroughly investigated to save the most money including the engine, transmission, drive train, fuel injections system, cooling system, electrical system, exhaust system, as well as the suspension, tires and wheels.

Only with this proper due diligence will the potential buyer of a second hand car be 100% sure that he’s really getting as good a deal as he thinks he is. It’s not enough just for the second hand car to be at a low sales price. It truly needs to be in excellent mechanical condition. And the body’s appearance should be appealing as well. If these factors are taken into account, then the buyer of the second hand car has the best chance for it to retain its monetary value over the years that he owns and drives it after buying it. This will save him even more money in the long run.

Buying second hand cars through the internet

If you are in the market for a second hand car then you have to be careful where you buy from. At the moment the second hand car market is quite deflated, so it does mean that you can find some great prices for some very good cars, but you have to be wary of cars that are only going to cause you problems. The best thing to do if you are looking to buy in the near future is to make sure that you use an internet site which you can trust. If you just find cars that are posted which do not allow you to test drive them then you really should avoid these. Anyone who is selling a used car who is not prepared to let you test drive their vehicle must be hiding something.

Ideally you will be looking for something with full service history and twelve months of MOT on it so that you know that nothing major is about to go wrong with the car. You can never tell for sure, but checking these things should let you know that you have a good chance of landing a good car.

You will find that some sites on the net are better than others when it comes to finding used cars. Try to find a well respected and established site so that you have a better chance of landing a decent car.

How to spot a great second hand car

Buying second hand cars always involves some sort of a risk, but when you consider that you can purchase a warranty on a second hand car for just a fraction of your purchase cost, the risks are not too great. There are some things however, that you can look out for when buying second hand Motors.

firstly of all you should always check the bodywork thoroughly. If you see lots of sings of rust then this could be something that will be quite expensive to deal with when it comes to the MOT. You can also try to check for any problems with the head gasket, because this can be the route of a fault which can often cost close to a thousand pounds to fix. The problem with a warped or cracked head gasket is that it is particularly difficult for mechanics to get to the part of the engine to replace it, and labour costs can be prohibitive.

Cars often still run for a while with a head gasket problem, so it is obviously something to watch out for. If you see the revs peaking and troughing at all, or if you notice any moisture coming out of the exhaust pipe when the accelerator is depressed then these could be signs. You can also take the cap off the expansion tank and if this doesn’t seem to be holding any pressure then this could also indicate a problem.

A lot of these problems can be false alarms though, and by far the best thing to do is to take along with you a mechanic or someone who knows their way around an engine of a car. Good luck with your search, and remember that most cars out there are in fine condition!
